Sekretin je hormon koji regulira homeostazu vode u cijelom tijelu i utiče na okruženje dvanaestopalačnog crijeva, regulirajući sekrete u želucu, gušterači i jetri. To je peptidni hormon proizveden u S-ćelijama duodenuma, koji se nalaze u crijevnim žlijezdama.[1] Kod čovjeka, sekretinski peptid kodira gen SCT, koji se nalazi na hromosomu 11.[2]

Sekretin pomaže u regulaciji pH duodenuma tako što

Prosekretin je preteča sekreta, koji je prisutan u probavi. Sekretin se čuva u ovom neupotrebljivom obliku, a aktivira ga želučana kiselina. To neizravno rezultira neutralizacijom duodenumskog pH, čime se osigurava da gore navedena kiselina ne ošteti tanko crijevo.[5]

U 2007., otkriveno je da sekretin ima ulogu u osmoregulaciji, djelujući na hipotalamus, hipofizu i bubrege.[6][7]
